i built a kitchen counter. see it down there? it came out pretty well. took forever. not the easiest thing, building a piece of furniture in a space (our balcony) that’s smaller than the eventual footprint of the furniture piece itself? but on the other hand, working out there is nice cause you’re just outside and looking at the ocean most of the time, listening to music or a podcast on your headphones, and it’s relaxing except for when it’s not relaxing, i.e., something’s not going according to plan, etc. you know, the classic types of stuff. there was definitely one full morning somewhere in there where i was just, like, mad about something or other. no idea what it was, really, now.

things to remember for next time? don’t buy the cheapest drawer slides, because it turns out the drawer and cabinet sides of the rail don’t even come apart? so of course it’s a total pain to install those s.o.b.’s, drawers all frankenstein-clamped in there while you crawl underneath and squirm your driver into position to get everything screwed in w/o accidentally nudging something out of place. but hey, it got the job done, after all. and, miraculously, the spacing for the slides + drawers came out like, pretty much perfect? as in, the drawers just kind of… work. definitely went into this one expecting more of a fight, drawer-fit-wise, but made it out mostly unscathed. and man oh man is the kitchen a lot more convenient now.

next project: a bookshelf/media console.
