made it back out to that previously mentioned future swim spot, out there in mitsuse, a solid 15-20 from our house, south over a steep windy mountain pass. trunks donned + towels ready to go, obviously. truth be told it was a little overcast and even maybe kind of chilly that day, as luck would have it? not that that was gonna stop us or anything. pros of that type of weather, and also of going at like, 3pm on a tuesday or something, is that basically nobody was there. we popped in that water and it was real chilly, and fresh, and clear, and felt great. i even managed to get a couple jumps in, there. real tight little 3-4 footer, thereabouts. jumps into the water in the summer?! tops. i’ve started jokingly referring to mitsuse as fukuoka’s playground, because really, it’s got it all. swim spot? yup. “acorn village,” some kind of petting zoo/story-land-esque amusement park (i guess is what you’d call it?) where shoko lost a beloved stuffed animal as a child? yup. great veggie shop, tofu spot, place to fill up yr water bottles with fresh spring water, for free? yup. and if you think they don’t have a go kart track out there, you can just pretty much go right to hell, far as i’m concerned. that’s where you’ll find me this summer: losing kontrol of my kart as i come in a bit too hot around corner four, confidence maybe a hair past where it should’ve been, given i’m still only on my third and, well, soon-to-be-final lap, launched up over the tire-lined embankment and down onto the road below just in time to get creamed by a daihatsu. fukuoka’s playground, indeed.
