you see, if i lived in japan, and i really wanted to have my transportation on point, and i had a little bit of money to throw around, i’d buy two things: 1) a suzuki carry (or, maybe less desirably, though for no reason other than arbitrary bias, a daihatsu hi-jet), which is the standard farmer’s truck around here, a little snub-nosed, stripped-down hyper utilitarian pickup truck (look it up, it’s cool); and 2) a honda super cub, which a friend of ours described as “the vespa of japan”: a spoke-wheeled, 50-cc-ish, totally classic-looking motorbike. it’s what the police and the postal service use, food delivery people, grandmas and grandpas and teens alike. available in very stylish color combinations. sometimes i daydream about a suzuki carry with a honda super cub in the back. i think it’s possible. it has to be possible.
