hey, car camping down by mt. aso? you betcha.

campgrounds out here, so far, at least in my experience, are basically just like a field, and you kind of just roll up wherever and that’s your spot. really nothing separating you from the other campers, or anything to really delineate one area as “your” campsite or not. not to mention no real shade or anything, which is kind of a bummer, camping-wise (though to be sure, there are greater bummers to be had, in terms of things that could go wrong camping). but we posted up in a corner, on sort of the opposite diagonal of the field from the one other set of campers that was there, so it felt at least a little bit secluded, in its own way.

got a hot tip from the proprietor of the campground about a short-ish hike up one of the peaks up near the titular mt. aso itself. eboshidake. it was great. the landscape was unreal – felt like it was all part of some totally sick model railroad setup. the whole time i was like, help, get me out of this model railroad setup!!! just kidding. i did feel many other things, though!
